Educational outreach is an important goal of the Civic Symphony mission. Our efforts to achieve that goal include the following:
-
The biennial Miroslav Pansky Memorial Concerto Competition for promising young musicians. In October 2008 more than 25 young musicians of remarkable talent and diversity competed, and our winner, David Keep of Lawrence University, received a cash prize as well as the honor of performing the Brahms Piano Concerto at last season’s family concert. The competition honors the memory of Maestro Pansky, long-time conductor of the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra and founder of its youth orchestras.
-
The annual family concert program is selected for its educational value and universal appeal. This season we feature an entertaining array of dances from Brahms to Gershwin that will certainly delight our afternoon audience of local school children as well our evening concert’s general audience.
-
Accomplished local students perform with the Civic Symphony each year, giving young people a chance to play challenging orchestral literature alongside seasoned musicians in a concert-hall venue--a valuable learning opportunity few young musicians experience.
-
Preconcert talks by knowledgeable local presenters increase our audience's understanding and appreciation of the works they hear.
