The Civic Symphony comprises 70 musicians, all volunteers except four string specialists who are supported by a grant from the Kress Foundation. Inc. In addition, only the conductor and a part-time administrative assistant are compensated for their professional services; otherwise all the duties of orchestra management are handled by an executive board and a board of directors made up of orchestra players and members of the community. Together they work to fulfill the orchestra's mission: "To maintain a community-based organization offering area volunteer musicians the opportunity to perform symphonic literature in partnership with skilled professionals, and to offer these performances to the general public at a price that minimizes financial barriers to attendance."

As a full time free lance violinist in Eastern Wisconsin, I have played with just about every group in the area. I enjoy each and every group, but I must say that the Civic Symphony is the "happiest" orchestra! The attitude of the players, the courteous encouragement and skill of the conductor and the congeniality of all involved with this organization makes playing the GBCS a true pleasure. Keep up the great work GBCS!

- Paul Lundin, Free Lance Musician
